President Obama met with Pope Francis today for the first time.

The leaders used translators to discuss social and economic issues and world peace.

The private meeting in the Papal library lasted just short of an hour and ended with a gift exchange.

Pope Francis gave the President a book of his writings. President Obama said he will probably read it when he is frustrated.

The President gave Pope Francis a chest full of seeds from the White House garden.

President Obama is the ninth president to make an official trip to the Vatican. He called it a great honor and invited the pontiff to the White House.
