Paulding Warns of Police Impersonators

ATLANTA (AP) -- Authorities are warning motorists to be wary of police impersonators who robbed a driver in Paulding County.

Sheriff Gary Gulledge said a black Ford Crown Victoria with a blue dashboard light stopped a woman late Friday.

Two men in business clothes approached the woman. One of the men took her wallet. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the men then fled.

Gulledge said drivers can always proceed to a well-lit area if they believe they are being pulled over by what appears to be a police vehicle.

In that case, the sheriff said drivers should travel below the speed limit and put their hazard lights on.

He said drivers can also call 911 to confirm a Paulding county deputy is pulling them over.
