Parents Arrested After Girl Shoots Self with Gun

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- The parents of a 4-year-old girl who accidentally shot herself in the chest after finding a gun on the couch have been arrested.

Florida Today reports Leshumbia Stokes was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence.

Marie Buskey was charged with child neglect causing great bodily harm and culpable negligence.

They were arrested Wednesday while visiting her at an Orlando hospital.

Police say the girl found a handgun on May 12 and shot herself in the chest while her parents were in another room.

Doctors brought her out of a medically induced coma but said she faces a long recovery.

Her parents rushed her to the hospital but police said Stokes allegedly returned home to dispose of the handgun before investigators arrived.

How many kids does it take to accidently shoot and harm or killed their selves before parents and other adult people learn to keep fire arms away from children ? Mine grew up with fire arms around. They knew they were deadly and not to touch them. They were loaded but not fire ready. And they were not within a childs reach.
