Obama Salutes Troops on Board USS Carl Vinson

President Barack Obama makes a statement to reporters about the suspicious packages found on U.S. bound planes, Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, in the James Brady Press Briefing Room of the White House in Washington.

CORONADO, Calif. (AP) -- President Barack Obama says every
American should make a solemn pledge to find some way to support
U.S. troops -- not just on Veterans Day but every day.

Obama made the comments to military personnel on board the USS
Carl Vinson, where he was spending a memorable evening watching a
college basketball game being played on the 95,000-ton Navy warship
that buried Osama bin Laden's body at sea.

Michigan State was playing No. 1 North Carolina in the
first-ever Carrier Classic on a basketball court erected on the
flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson anchored off the coast of San
Diego.

Obama is stopping in San Diego en route to Hawaii for a regional
economic summit, part of a nine-day trip with stops in Australia
and Indonesia.
