New Military Robot Travels on Four Legs

Uncle Sam’s newest recruit doesn't need food, water, or bathroom breaks.

Meet the "Legged Squad Support System,” but you can call it "LS3".

The robot can carry 400 pounds of gear, relieving the physical burden from service men and women.

It can follow squads through rugged terrain, even adjusting its path to avoid obstacles or pitfalls.

And, according to the military it interacts with troops much like a trained animal would.

Marines are testing "LS3" in Hawaii, at a training exercise that draws militaries from 22 countries.
