CARY, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a North Carolina teenager who held several people hostage inside a bank did not have a gun.
Cary Police Chief Pat Bazemore said at a news conference Sunday that 19-year-old Devon Mitchell of Cary had told hostages inside a bank that he had a gun. He also told a hostage negotiator that he had a gun.
Mitchell was shot and killed by officers when he walked out of the building holding a red hat to the head of a hostage.
Bazemore says there was something concealed inside a red toboggan when Mitchell walked into the bank.
She says that she didn't know what that was, but that it wasn't a gun.
