Obesity isn't just a problem in people anymore. It's now spreading to our pets.
According to a survey by the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, more than half of our pets are overweight. It found 55 percent of dogs and 53 percent of cats are carrying too much weight on their paws.
Veterinarians say obesity in pets can lead to many of the same problems it does in people: diabetes, kidney diseases and joint problems.
And just like people, vets say pets can become overweight if they have a poor diet and not enough exercise.
