WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. government has reversed a six-month
ban on Mexican shrimp by certifying that shrimpers had changed their way of harvesting shrimp so that their trawls no longer threatened harm to rare sea turtles.

Mexican shrimpers were excluded on April 20 because the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service determined that turtle excluder devices in the Mexican fleet's trawls no longer met U.S. standards to protect turtles.

The State Department recertified Mexico on Friday. It said the effectiveness of Mexico's turtle excluder devise program is now comparable to that of the United States.
