JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A north Florida man died from an unknown cause following a struggle with police.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a Red Roof Inn early Tuesday morning, after receiving calls about a man with a history of mental problems in distress.
Officers were planning to take 28-year-old C.J. Moss to get help, but authorities say he began to struggle when officers tried to put him in a patrol car.
It took several officers to get Moss handcuffed and restrained.
Officials say no Tasers or weapons were used.
At some point, an officer saw that Moss was in medical distress.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.
Officers found prescribed medication consistent with his mental history in his hotel room but no illegal drugs.
A cause of death has not been determined.
