A man from South Carolina has taken it upon himself to clean up Washington’s Memorials.
Armed with a leaf blower and push mower, Chris Cox calls himself the "Memorial Militia."
He's been taking away trash, blowing away leaves, and even using a chainsaw to clear branches from a path near the Lincoln, World War Two, Korean War and Vietnam War Memorials.
“Well the day the government shut down I was watching the news and they wouldn't stop talking about how vulnerable our monuments are, our memorials, and that concerned me,” said Cox
Cox says it's important to make sure veterans who visit the capitol next week find the memorials in good shape.
Cox has been asked to stop working but says as long as the government is shutdown, he'll continue.
