Malala Delivers Address to United Nations

NEW YORK - A Pakistani girl who became a symbol of strength against the Taliban spoke before the United Nations Friday.

A few months ago, Malala Yousafzai was fighting for her life after an attack by the Pakistani Taliban. Malala had been an outspoken advocate for girls education in Pakistan.

Friday, to a standing ovation, she delivered her first public speech at the U.N.

"Today is the day of every woman, every boy and every girl who have raised their voice for their rights. Now is the time to speak up."

Nearly a thousand young faces filled the room, invited from 90 countries on a shared mission.

The U.N. officially declared Friday as "Malala Day."
