July's sweltering temperatures this year made history.
It wasn't just the hottest July ever. It was the hottest month ever on record in the United States -- at least since the federal government began record keeping in 1895.
The latest Monthly Climate Report also says the 12-month period ending in July was the warmest recorded in those 117 years.
