Imagine getting almost 23 HUNDRED miles per gallon in your car.
Purdue students have designed and built a car with that capability.
The newest urban concept solar car has solar cells on top that capture the sun's energy.
A tracker inside of the car then stores and converts it into energy that can be used by batteries.
Solar racing program member Zack Lapetina says with high gas prices...it would be nice to see this car on the market soon...but it might be awhile before we do.

"There would need to be improvements in solar technology. What we do here, we act like a symbol or something that could happen in the future when technology catches up, when costs go down, a little bit. We could definitely see something like this in the future."
If the car were to go on the market now...Lapetina says it would cost about 100 thousand dollars.
The car received a first place prize at the Shell Eco Marathon in Houston last weekend.
