Firefighters Donate Lottery Winnings To Ailing Firefighter

They're already heroes for what they do, but five firefighters in Albuquerque, New Mexico are exemplifying the word, after deciding to donate some of their Mega Millions winnings to a colleague with cancer.

The firefighters were thrilled to hear they had won ten-thousand dollars in the Mega Millions lottery.

But instead of keeping all the winnings for themselves, they're donating some of it to 24-year-old firefighter Vince Cordova, who has a rare, aggressive tumor in his brain.

Doctors say it can be removed by a specialist in Los Angeles, but will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The firefighters say their donation for Cordova is a drop in the bucket, but they hope it will inspire others.

When we found out we had won the lottery, it was decided almost immediately that we should try to fall in the footsteps of some of the golf tournaments and other things that have been done to generate some awareness.

The Albuquerque Fire Department says it's a big family, and they support each other through good times and bad.
