Firefighter Quits after Club Brawl

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Athens-Clarke County police say a veteran
firefighter resigned after he came under investigation for his conduct during a brawl in a club.

Police say an officer's report shows 55-year-old James Douglas
Whitehead pulled a gun during a scuffle at the downtown Athens club
last week.

Police say the other man, a 57-year-old Watkinsville resident, got Whitehead to drop the gun by twisting it from his hand and punching him in the head.

Police say Whitehead was knocked out and was taken to Athens
Regional Medical Center for treatment of cuts to his face and a
severe cut on a finger.

Athens-Clarke police Capt. Clarence Holeman says Whitehead's
lawyer has told authorities that Whitehead will contact police about the matter.

County officials say Whitehead resigned two days after the brawl.
