Morning Tropical Update: Daniel and Emilia No Threat to Land; Atlantic Calm for Now

In the Pacific Ocean, Hurricane Emilia continues to gain strength. However, the storm continues to head away from land.

As of 2:00am Pacific (4:00am Central), Hurricane Emilia was nearly 700 miles away from Baja California, and moving away from the Americas at 12 miles per hour.

Emilia now has sustained winds of 140 miles per hour, making it a Category 4 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. While extremely intense now, the storm is expected to begin to weaken by tonight and continue to diminish in strengthen by Thursday.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Daniel is nearly 1,500 miles to the east of Hilo, Hawaii. However, he is not expected to threaten the islands. The storm has winds of 70 miles per hour now and should also weaken by Thursday. Like Emilia, Daniel is no threat to land.

Meanwhile, there are no named storms in the Atlantic Ocean or anywhere near the Wiregrass.
