Conneticut Elected Official Wants to Protest a Ban on Same-Sex Marriages

A Connecticut elected official is calling on fellow Democrats to use their national convention in North Carolina this summer to protest the vote to ban same-sex marriage.
Connecticut's comptroller Kevin Lembo is questioning whether Democrats are tacitly accepting the state's vote by having their convention in Charlotte, N.C. He said in a letter Wednesday to Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, that he understands it's too late to shift the site.
Lembo said in an interview that Democrats should use the occasion to show solidarity with opponents. He is Connecticut's only openly gay statewide elected official.
A spokesman for the Democratic National Committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The convention is scheduled for Sept. 3-7.
