Clayton Police Seek Suspect in Rape of Young Girl

JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) -- Police in Clayton County are seeking the public's assistance in locating a man suspected of raping a young girl last week.

Clayton County police Lt. Chris Windley told the Atlanta Journal Constitution the girl was walking on Rose Commons Drive near Lovejoy when she was attacked by an armed man and taken into a wooded area.

The victim told police she was sexually assaulted and the suspect ran into a nearby neighborhood.

Police are describing the suspect as a fare-skinned black man, about 6 feet to 6-feet-one with an athletic build and in his mid to late 20s.

Investigators say the suspect may be left handed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Joanne Southerland at 770-477-3655 or 678-229-8008.
