An all new Boeing jet took flight in Everett, Washington Tuesday (9/17).

Boeing launched its newest airplane at the company’s Everett factory. The 787-9 roared down a runway and then made its maiden voyage 16-thousand feet above Washington State.

After a series of preliminary tests and checks, engineers deemed the new Dreamliner fit to fly. So to the skies this jumbo jet soared.

This aircraft is 20-feet longer than previous Dreamliner models, allowing 40 more passengers to board and can fly an extra 300 nautical miles on a full tank of jet fuel.

Boeing hopes this fleet will have success. Earlier this year, the Federal Aviation Administration grounded Boeing’s 787-8 Dreamliner fleet due to a series of battery malfunctions that caused smoke and fire.

Tuesday’s flight lasted a total of five hours. Production on the Dreamliner 787-10 is already in progress.
