KCNC - ERIE, Colo. (CBS4) – Extra police patrols have been added in Erie after a bear was spotted in town.
The large bear was captured by a gas station’s security cameras just before 1 a.m. Saturday morning putting its paws up on the window of the Conoco’s convenience store and trying to look inside.
The gas station is located at the intersection of East County Line Road and Jay Road near Erie’s historic old town neighborhood. It was closed when the bear paid the visit.
After walking past the front door of the business the bear is seen in the video walking towards some dumpsters. It also walked past the gas station’s car wash area in the video.
Erie police said the bear crossed East County Line Road and went to the dumpster behind the Great Western Bank. Then is crossed Cheesman Street and climbed up a tree outside Erie Middle School and stayed there for a while.
The bear is now the talk of the town in Erie.
“It’s part of the charm of being in Colorado, but this is weird to be in Erie and have a bear here,” said one resident.
Another resident said he has lived in Erie for 23 years and has never heard of a bear being there.
Erie is located about 15 miles east of Boulder, where bears are sometimes spotted near or in town
