BP is issuing a warning to lawyers for many Gulf Coast businesses.
The oil giant says if its appeal is successful, it may try to recover part of its settlement.
BP is sending hundreds of letters to attorney’s for businesses that the company believes received excessive payments from that settlement.
The letters are part of BP’s increasingly aggressive campaign to challenge a judge’s interpretation of the settlement terms.
The company is also placing full page ads in three of the nation’s largest newspapers.
The ads accuse lawyers and some politicians of encouraging businesses to submit claims for inflated or non-existent losses.
