Army Looks to Cut Civilian Workforce by 14 Percent Next Year

The Army’s Chief of Staff is looking for alternatives to civilian furloughs.

General Ray Odierno told the House Armed Services Committee yesterday the furloughs were horrible and unconscionable.

Instead of furloughs, the Army is looking at force reductions. If sequestration continues, the civilian workforce will be cut 14 percent. Including a 25 percent cut at the headquarter level.

Odierno signaled similar cuts would be made in the contractor workforce as well.
