Alabama's only military unit dedicated to serving wounded soldiers is closing.
The community based warrior transition unit at Redstone Arsenal is one of 9 units being closed across the country.
It's part of the Department of Defense's restructuring plan.
The unit provides outpatient care and services to Army Reserve and National Guard soldiers who don't require day-to-day care.
The Army will also close 5 warrior transition units at major military treatment facilities.
Those units provide support to wounded, ill and injured soldiers who require at least 6-months of rehabilitative care and medical management.
The changes are expected to be in place by September 30th.
