Georgia Soldier Reunited with Dogs that Saved His Life

A Georgia National Guardsman has been reunited with some furry friends he picked up in Afghanistan.

While on tour, Chris Duke made friends with three stray dogs: Sasha, Target and Rufus.

One night in February, a suicide bomber tried to blow up Duke's barracks, but the dogs attacked him causing the intruder to blow himself up before he could kill the soldiers inside. Sasha had to be put down, but Rufus and Target were nursed back to health.

After returning home, Duke wrote the group "Hope for the Warriors" requesting the two dogs be brought to the states. Soon a Facebook group was formed and $21,000 were raised.

Rufus and Target were reunited with Duke Thursday.

So good to have selfless friends, as dogs are. I am so sorry the point had to be put down, but glad that the boys survived to come here to their rescuer! What a happy poignant story!

What a great story. Shasha was probably the lead on the attack and took the brunt of the attack that would have killed our Guardsman. These furry friends deserve a great life. Thanks Chris Duke.
