For weeks BP has said its relief well will be completed in mid-August, but now the company is hinting it could be finished three weeks early.
BP’s point man, Bob Dudley, told The Wall Street Journal the relief well could be ready between July 20 and July 27.
Critics say that while they hope it's true, they're not holding their breath, saying BP has repeatedly misled with its numbers and lost credibility.
CEO Doug Suttles insists the timeline hasn't changed, saying the last week of July is a possibility but it's best to think mid-August.
One theory behind the hint at an earlier finish is that July 27 is the date when BP reports second quarter earnings to nervous shareholders.
