A national transportation safety board team has arrived in Staten Island to investigate the ferry crash that injured 37 people early Saturday.
There were 252 passengers aboard when what is being called a mechanical malfunction prevented the ferry from slowing down as it approached the St. George terminal.
The ferry slammed into the pier.
Late Saturday, the head of the NTSB team said what happened is called an "allusion" when a moving ship or vessel hits something stationary, such as the terminal pier.
The seven-person NTSB team will go over ferry deck operations, maintenance records, interview passengers, and it will look at the last 72 hours of crew interactions.
