New Observation Deck Installed on Space Station

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) - Astronauts have finally installed a fancy observation deck at its new spot on the International Space Station.

It took several hours for the shuttle and station crews to complete the job early Monday after jammed bolts and wayward wiring made for a long, frustrating night.

A robotic arm was used to secure the $27 million domed lookout
to its permanent resting place on a new room at the station called
Tranquility.

The lookout is essentially a big bay window. It had been attached to the other side of the room so it could fit in space shuttle Endeavour's payload bay during its launch.

The Italian-designed lookout has seven windows, including the
largest ever sent into space.
