RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Elizabeth Edwards says her "whole family
feels relieved" now that her husband has come forward to claim
paternity of a child he fathered out of wedlock.
Edwards said in an interview with The Associated Press that she
believes John Edwards is also relieved to put the matter behind
him. She said she hopes the declaration will help end publicity
around the family's matters.
She declined to talk about her marital status, saying, "My
marriage shouldn't be on anybody's radar screen except mine."
Elizabeth Edwards' cancer returned in March 2007 in an incurable
form. She said the cancer got worse for a period but has recently
been improving, with some signs of tumors shrinking.
"You hate to tempt cancer," she says.
