Texas College Campus Locked Down After Shots Fired

MCKINNEY (August 17, 2010)—A gunman is confirmed dead after shots were fired Tuesday on the Collin County Community College campus in McKinney and at the McKinney Police Department and there are unconfirmed reports that a second suspect is still at large.

A message posted on Collin Community College website said shots were fired at the college’s Central Park Campus just after 9 a.m. Monday.

“Police are still on the scene and the campus is on lockdown until further notice,” the notice said.

Later, a man pulled up to the McKinney police station in a pickup truck loaded with ammunition and opened fire at officers.

Officers returned fire.

McKinney city official Anna Folmsbee said the gunman was killed near the public safety building, but it’s not clear whether police the suspect was shot by police or died from a self-inflicted wound.

The man’s pickup truck burst into flames as gunfire from officers struck it.

The campus and the police station are about a half-mile apart.

A Lowes store between the police station and campus was also locked down Tuesday morning.
