Panama City Beach-- Double red flags were flying across Bay County beaches all day Saturday and it’s extremely important to heed those double red flags which mean the Gulf is closed for swimming.

Panama City Beach police report a 42-year-old male from North Carolina drowned in the Gulf Saturday afternoon.

It happened in the 15500 block of Front Beach Road near the Legacy of the Sea Resort. The man and his wife were vacationing in Panama City Beach. Witnesses say they saw the man swimming in the Gulf waist-deep before he disappeared.

Lifeguards and Beach police say they were in the area asking swimmers to get out of the water all afternoon.
