Elena Kagan was sworn in as the newest Supreme Court Justice on Saturday.
Kagan took part in two ceremonies. She took the constitutional oath
in a private event before taking the judicial oath in front of friends
and the media in a public ceremony.
Chief Justice John Roberts presided over both swearing in ceremonies. Kagan will be officially installed as a justice at the start of the new term in October.
Kagan replaces retiring Justice John Paul Stevens. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan is the fourth woman to sit on the nation's highest court.
