The 70th annual National Peanut Festival wrapped up in Dothan on Sunday. Organizers say that the festival and its associated parade was a success and they are already looking forward to next year. After sharing some pictures from viewers and attendees on Monday, we shared even more of them for this installment of Web Wednesday.
Tuesday, we told you about the return of a popular fad toy from the 1970s--the Pet Rock! The original pet rock was sold as a pet you didn't have to groom, Feed, or care for, because it was...Well...Just a rock! Now, a new pet rock for the 21st century has been made—the USB Pet Rock, which is a rock attached to a computer cable. Rene Cartagena says, “This was a dumb idea the first time and it is dumb the second time, but whoever came up with the idea is a genius.” Elizabeth Porter suggested that people “[g]o outside and pick up a rock.” And, Randy Welch adds, “I'd get one but I'm afraid it wouldn't get enough attention while I'm always at work.”
It was recently announced that Blockbuster Video, once a giant in the movie and game rental business, was closing the rest of its 300 stores that were still open. This follows in the footsteps of movie gallery, which also recently came to an end. Sam Breth said of Blockbuster, “I rented a lot of movies there. They always had good candy at the front of the store.” Eric Headley replied, “Movie Gallery was my place to rent!” And, Tony Reeder shares a story, “I didnt like them. I had some USED video games from there go missing at one of my friends homes and they TRIED to charge me full price for each game.”
Tuesday’s unofficial holiday was National Pizza with the Works Except Anchovies Day. On that day, viewers shared their favorite toppings and on Web Wednesday, we shared even more. William Sellers likes his pizza with “Chicken With Alfredo Sauce.” Michael McClean prefers “Hot italian sausage, spicy cheese, jalapeno peppers, mushrooms, onions.” He the adds, “Now I'm hungry!” Darlene Killingsworth goes classic with “pepperoni and cheese.” Thomas Ratcliffe has a unique suggestion, “I want a Thanksgiving pizza. Cranberry sauce, stuffing, scattered hashbrowns, giblet gravy, and Turkey. :P”
The past weekend, Bronies—the passionate teenage and adult fans of the hit animated series, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic—met in Texas for the “Nightmare Nights” fan convention. Fans were able to attend panels featuring talent from the show such as voice actors, writers, directors, and animators. There were also musical performances, panels related to fan works, vendors selling merchandise, gaming and more. It was shared by Equestria Daily, a major fan site of the community. Supervising Director of Friendship is Magic, Jayson Thiessen also shared the story with his followers! And, fans of the show from across the country and the world shared it as well!
