Throwback Thursday

The goal of this game: quickly get your fares to their destination! It may sound simple, but this game became a hit at the arcade and on home consoles.

Crazy Taxi was first released by Sega into the arcade in 1999, and later on the Sega Dreamcast in 2000.

The basic gameplay included selecting a driver of a taxi and traveling around a large city, picking up passengers and delivering them to their destination.

The game rewarded players with extra playing time if they delivered the fares to their destination in a certain amount of time.

Players could earn extra cash from their fare by avoiding traffic, drifting around turns and flying into the air. They could also cause chaos by smashing into other vehicles, forcing bystanders to dive out of the way, and destroying road signs and outdoor furniture.

Home console versions, which later also included Playstation and GameCube, added a new city as well as different play modes.

The game’s success led to a pair of sequels on home consoles, and later, a mobile game.
