The 2014 FIFA World Cup officially kicks off today, and since its Throwback Thursday, News 4 This Morning is looking back at a critically-acclaimed soccer video game from the 1990s.
Developed by Konami for the Nintendo 64, International Superstar Soccer 64 was released for the Nintendo 64 on July 31st, 1997.
The game was a sequel to a previous International Superstar Soccer game released for the Super Nintendo.
The game had fast, arcade-style gameplay, but also had deep customization and strategic features. All player names could be edited, and the formations teams played in had more options than some modern soccer games.
Many reviewers praised the game also for its mulitplayer, which supported up to 4 players at a time, along with its variety of options.
An enthusiastic commentator, complete with cries of “GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!” is included as well.
