The Disney Afternoon was a major success in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and one of those series debuted on this day in television history.

TaleSpin debuted first on The Disney Channel on May 5th, 1990. The series takes characters from the The Jungle Book and places them in a new setting of Cape Suzette. Baloo is the pilot in an air delivery service, and along with the young Kit Cloudkicker, goes on various adventures and battles villains.

The animated series was nominated for an Emmy and lasted for a successful 65 episodes. It, along with other shows such as Darkwing Duck, Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers and Ducktales were part of an extremely successful block of original Disney animated shows known as the Disney Afternoon.
