Theme Parks of the Tri-States: Six Flags Over Georgia & Alabama Adventure

All this week, News 4 This Morning is looking at theme parks of the tri-states of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. Some still open, others defunct.

Six Flags Over Georgia is perhaps one of the most popular parks of the tri-states area. Located near Atlanta in the Georgia community of Austell, Six Flags Over Georgia opened in 1967. The park is known for rides like the wooden roller coaster called The Great American Scream Machine, bumper cars, and its most recent thrill ride, the SkyScreamer. The park also has a variety of rides for young kids, and features characters from Warner Brothers like Bugs Bunny and Superman.

Alabama Adventure, at one time known as Visionland, was a theme park that opened in Bessemer near Birmingham in Alabama in 1998. The park would feature a variety of rides ranging from the Rampage roller coaster to a giant Ferris Wheel and more. The park underwent many changes in ownership throughout the years, including a name change. In 2011, Alabama Adventure would be no more as it changed exclusively to a water park known as Splash Adventure.
