Team USA Claims Another World Cup of Softball Championship

The 2014 FIFA World Cup wasn't the only world cup that came to an end over the weekend, the IX World cup of Softball wrapped up on Sunday as well.

Before the final, in their last game of pool play on Saturday, team USA dominated the competition, besting Chinese Taipei by a score of 14-0. Because of the mercy rule, that game was shortened to four innings.

Then, on Sunday, USA took the field for the gold medal game against Canada. Three runs in the fifth inning combined with eight strikeouts from Sara Nevins helped the Americans claim the win of 5-2. This victory marks the seventh time the US has won in a total of nine world cups.

Chinese Taipei would later go on to win the third place game over Japan by a score of 3-1.
