This week’s notable home video releases bring together a rich playboy, a detective who’s also a doctor, a princess, and an alliance of legendary superheroes.
These are some of the notable releases for August 27th, 2013 in Region 1 (North America) coming to retail on Blu-Ray and/or DVD:
“The Great Gatsby” (Warner Home Video, PG-13, DVD & Blu-Ray) – The latest adaptation of the 1925 novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald stars Leonado DeCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher. Set in 1922, it follows the story of Nick Carraway and millionaire Jay Gatsby. This adaptation mixes the retro setting with modern music.
“Barbie Mariposa & the Fairy Princess” (Universal Studios, DVD & Blu-Ray) – The most recent in direct-to-video stories set in the Barbie Universe, this tale follows Mariposa, who ends up banished from the land of the fairies. She must team with up with a princess to save her homeland. The film features the voice talents of such actors as Kathleen Barr, Tabitha St. Germain, and Markye Hendriske, known for their work on the hit animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
“Best of Warner Bros.: 25 Cartoon Collection” – (Warner Home Video, DVD) – This animation compilation includes episodes from numerous DC animated series of the past few decades including, but not limited to: Superfriends, Batman: The Animated Series, Krypto the Superdog, Young Justice, Teen Titans, and Justice League.
“Diagnosis Murder: The Fourth & Fifth Season: Parts 1 & 2” – (VEI/Millennium, DVD) – The fourth and fifth seasons of the mystery series starring Dick Van Dyke as a doctor who also solves crime will be available in four separate box sets. Season 4 includes a crossover with the Andy Griffith show Matlock.
