Fanaticon Alpha was Dothan’s first anime, comic and genre convention. In November, it was held at the Clarion Inn and Suites. Organized by Phillip Chalker of the gaming shop Fanatix and partially funded with money raised through Kickstarter online, it attracted over 500 visitors. Some came in costumes, and they could enjoy panels, purchase merchandise, and take part in contests. A second Fanaticon, called Fanaticon Beta, is already in the planning stages for 2014.

A video of a cat in a shark costume riding a Roomba automated vacuum cleaner went viral in August. The owner, who lives in Houston Texas, says that the cat will ride it for hours, even as it bumps into walls and furniture.

Another cat video-related story involved a cat jumping on a photographer and his camera when preparing for a report in Canada. No one was hurt, and the reporter on the scene can be scene laughing in the background of the photographs.

Galacon was a convention for fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in Germany that took place in August. The convention drew hundreds who could interact with talent from the show, take part in panels, play games with fans, and even dress up as their favorite characters. A second GalaCon is in the planning stages for 2014.

They’re elves that pop up in the homes of families near Christmas time and find themselves in the most unusual of positions and situations. They’re called Elf on the Shelf! In December, we had many viewer pictures of the shenanigans that their elves got into.

Andrea Libman is a voice actress best known for her work as Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, which has attracted a large fanbase of all ages. Through the internet and with the help of her fans, Libman took part the Ride to Conquer Cancer for charity. At the charity ride's finish line, Libman was greeted by a group of fans from Seattle who congratulated her on her efforts...which resulted in over 20-thousand raised in the ride to conquer cancer.

In August, an enormous military ship plowed into a crowded Baltic Sea beach, surprising vacationers who seemed to have had no advance warning! Video shows the Russian craft called the bison not slowing down and plowing into the beach. The Russian military says it was a routine training exercise. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident.

A man in California made a costume for his 22-month old daughter, Zoey! It's a stick figure costume made from led lights! The video of the costume went viral and Royce Hutain of Huntington Beach says he's gotten a lot of requests to buy the costume, but his daughter would be wearing the costume come Halloween.

It's been known to represent a "finger lickin" good time. But when a Georgia woman found a seven-foot tall Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket in her front yard, she didn't know what to think. The bucket actually became a landmark; the landlord of the woman who discovered the bucket collects signs and says he couldn't pass up the forty-year-old bucket. The landlord even says he hopes to display it in the future!

The Bronies, the fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, held numerous fan conventions all across the world in 20-13, including the Nightmare Nights convention in Austin, Texas. Fans could meet talent; enjoy concerts, purchase merchandise and more. And, the convention also helped a pair of causes as well. According to the convention's official Twitter...over $9000 was raised for Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital and over $3000 for a Texas food bank.
