IX Softball World Cup Recap - Day 1

The 9th World Cup of Softball got started in California on Monday, July 7th.

Four games were played in the tournament on Monday.

The Philippines won the opening game of the tournament against Venezuela 3-0. Then Venezuela took the field again to beat Chinese Taipei 6-3. And, in the third game of the day, Canada forced the mercy rule against Japan, bringing an 11-4 game to a close after just five innings.

The US played a game against Mexico. But, this was an extra exhibition game for the crowd. University of Alabama pitcher Jaclyn Traina threw three scoreless innings. And in the end, the US blanked Mexico 7-to-nothing.

The American team gets their first official start today, as they play against the Philippines at 9 pm central time.
