Entertainment Extra: Patch Announced to Add Offline Mode to Newest SimCity Game

Simcity has been a popular franchise for well over a decade. In the games released over the years, players work to build a city from scratch--managing money, resources, zoning, buildings and much more.

The creators of SimCity are hoping players don't move on after connectivity issues plagued the game's launch last week. The updated edition of the 24-year-old metropolis-building franchise released last Tuesday, March 5, 2013, requires players to be online _ even if they're constructing virtual cities in the single-player mode. Simcity has been a popular franchise for well over a decade. In the games released over the years, players work to build a city from scratch--managing money, resources, zoning, buildings and much more.

In 2013, Electronic Arts and Maxis released the latest version of the game. It had advanced graphics and new features, and also required players to be connected to the internet at all times to play the game.

This caused a controversy with many gamers. However, in a recent blog published by maxis general manager Patrick Bucechner on Sunday, it was announced that an upcoming patch would add an off-line mode to the game.

This would allow players not only to play the game without having to be connected to the internet at all times, but to save the game at any point. In addition, it opens up the ability to add custom modifications to the game, such as new buildings.

A release date for the patch has yet to be announced.
