Pepsi is one of the two big names in soft drinks, and while their failure wasn't as spectacular as New Coke, it definitely was notable. In 1992, PepsiCo introduced Crystal Pepsi. This was a clear, caffeine-free soft drink. It started out successfully, even inspiring the Coca-Cola Company to make its own see-through beverage, Tab Clear. However, sales quickly dropped off in the US. The beverage did have a somewhat longer life in Europe, however.

Before the battle between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD came the original video format war in the realm of video cassettes: Betamax and VHS. Sony's Betamax boasted a small physical size, more durability and a better picture. However, the JVC-backed VHS had a longer recording time and more open support. By the 80s, the Betamax began to slip, even though it beat its competition to market the previous decade. In the 1990s, VHS was dominant until DVD came around.
