Stranded In Winter Weather Tips
If you are ever stranded on or near a roadway during significant winter weather, here’s some advice to follow:
Alabama's Winter Weather Awareness Week wraps up.
For the final day, the National Weather Service and Alabama Emergency Management agencies are taking a look at driving safely in winter weather.
If at all possible don't drive in winter weather, but if you have to, here are some tips to make it to where you are going safely.
If you must travel through snow and ice, have snow tires or chains mounted onto your regular tires.
If at all possible, a driver should travel in the daylight for maximum visibility.
It is recommended that you keep as much gas in your car as possible.
A winter weather traveler should have some emergency items on hand. Some of the recommended items include an ice scraper, blanket, portable radio and some non-perishable food.
And, finally, drive as slowly and defensively as possible. This will reduce the risk of an accident if you hit a patch of ice.
