TROY, Alabama – A new study co-authored by a researcher at Troy University says tornado watches are not effective in reducing storm related deaths or injuries.
Authored by Troy University's Daniel Sutter and Austin College's Kevin Simmons, both professors of economics, the study appears in the March edition of International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters.
The researchers found that in more than 20,000 tornadoes occurring over a 20-year period, tornado watches were ineffective in reducing deaths and injuries related to storms.
