Dothan District 1 City Commission Election (Rachel Yonkunas)

The City of Dothan’s District 1 has a new commissioner. By a difference of only 18 votes, Kevin Dorsey defeated District 1 Incumbent City Commissioner James Reading. Almost 1,000 people voted in Tuesday night’s election. Dorsey said he heard the people of District 1 loud and clear, and is ready to get to work.

Throughout his campaign, Dorsey believed change was best for the district and the city. This week, he will knock on doors again—only this time, not for votes. He will ask about people’s concerns and address their issues. Dorsey celebrated the news at his mother’s house because he said his roots are important to his future.

“This is where it all started from. When you walk out my mother's front door, those are some of the main issues that I heard from the people loudly. The houses, the dogs, all the different issues people had, but it's time now to get those issues addressed and to get some answers,” said Dorsey.

Dorsey will hold a community forum no later than next week to gather input from District 1 neighborhoods.

Final Votes:

James Reading (479)

Kevin Dorsey,Winner (497)
