Good news for Alabama

Good news for Alabama's Pre-Kindergarten Program.

According to a new study, Alabama is one of only 4-states whose pre-k programs meet every requirement.

Today more than 100-grants were approved for Alabama pre-k programs.

Those grants will expand Alabama's First Class Voluntary Pre-K Program to more schools, pre-schools, child care centers and head start locations including two in Houston county.

The grants range in number, but some of them will allow Pre-K programs to hire certified teachers.

It will also help put a new curriculum in place and increase the teacher to student ratio.

The grants were awarded based on several criteria, including local needs, local demand and high-quality standards.

Kiddie Care Learning Center and Building Blocks Child Development in Houston County both received grants.
