Super Smash Brothers Melee – A popular fighting game from Nintendo that brings many of its most iconic characters such as Pikachu, Mario, Fox McCloud, Samus Aran and more together. This particular game is the second in the series, released for the GameCube system.
Halo – A long-running first-person shooter franchise. These games include a single-player campaign, but are also popular for their online multiplayer modes.
Yu-Gi-Oh! – A popular collectible card game franchise involving monsters. It also spawned a long-running anime series.
What is a speedrun? – Speedruns, popular online, are when gamers attempt to beat a game or a portion of a game in the fastest amount of time possible.

Over the weekend of August 3rd and August 4th, 1UP Games and Fanatix teamed up for a 24 hour marathon of gaming and raised money for an international charity.
Dozens of gamers young and old began playing games at 5pm on Saturday and continued playing throughout the next 24 hours.
Popular video games such as Nintendo’s Super Smash Brothers Melee and Microsoft’s Halo were played. In addition, card games like Yu-Gi-Oh were played as well. Others attempted speedruns of games like Mario 64.
Tournaments were held between players, and in some places, prizes were raffled off such as a classic Nintendo Entertainment System and a television.
The first Circle City Game-A-Thon raised a total of $1,124.70 towards Mission Firefly, which is a mission dedicated towards improving the quality of life for those in Guatemala’s poor and rural areas with construction, food, clothing and more.
