A five-year old boy that lives in Brooklyn is a young fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, an animated series which has attracted a large number of teenage and adult fans across the world as well.
Sarah Fader, a.k.a. Old School/New School Mom, lives in Brooklyn and has run a blog since 2009. The mother two wrote an entry on her blog on January 3rd titled “My Son is a Brony.”
Her son, Ari, is five years old. Fader explains she was a fan of the original 1980s series and that her son began enjoying the newest incarnation, Friendship is Magic as they watched it together on Netflix. Fader explains on her blog, “He asked to watch episode after episode of My Little Pony all the while holding the tiny pony figurines in his lap.” And, Ari says of the show, “I just like them.”
Fader discovered the term Brony, which is a common name for teenage and adult fans of the series. These passionate fans, all across the world, explain their love of the series because of its characters, animation, music, humor and a variety of other reasons. On her blog, Fader echoes a sentiment of many Bronies young and old, male and female: “My point is, we can all love My Little Pony without labeling each other boys who like it and girls who like it. It's a fun show.”
Sarah Fader's story was picked up by a variety of fan-run sites about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and went viral throughout the community. Fan art was made of both Ari and his mother, and Hasbro even sent the boy some My Little Pony merchandise as well.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic airs on the Hub Network. The animated series is currently in its fourth season.
