The nation's capital wants to host the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Tuesday, a D.C. non-profit group formally launched a campaign to seek a bid for the games.
A similar push for the 2012 summer Olympics failed but this time organizers are optimistic.
An official bid would have to come from the United States Olympic Committee.
The U.S.O.C. is currently in talks with about ten American cities interested in hosting the Games, including Washington.
The last time the U.S. hosted the Summer Olympics was in 1996 in Atlanta.
The U.S. also hosted the Winter Games in Salt Lake city, Utah, in 2002.
