It's a day that pays tribute to the machine that helps making clothes easier and more efficient—the sewing machine.
The first American sewing machine was patented in 1842, but others were invented during that time and inventors battled each other for patents, which led to another war of the mid-19th century: the Sewing Machine War.
After the invention of the sewing machine, women who normally had to spend much more time sewing now had more time for leisure and other employment.
Sewing Machines are now commonplace in retail stores and modern units have many advanced features, including computerized components.
